What Causes Pain In Breast When I Breath?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jan 2015
Question: When I breathe in, in feel a mild pain in my right breast. When I lay on right side of my body, the pain is worse in same area. When I take three advil, I feel better within an hr or so. Then I'll feel better for quite a while. Last night, however, I had a hard time sleeping with the discomfort. My grandkids have been here and I've played and lifted a 6-yr old. Is this a muscle pull or do I need to get checked?

Brief Answer:
Its muscle pull/ sprain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows:
1. It appears to be a muscle sprain, possibly of the intercoastal muscles, between the rib cage.
2. This muscle is important, specifically during breathing and more during deep breathing. So, you will feel pain during breathing.
3. As the pain is present at rest and in lying position, it cannot be related to heart. No breathlessness is also seen.
4. Not to worry, it is a muscle stretch. Continue Advil. Avoid taking it on empty stomach. If necessary, muscle relaxant can be taken. Will require rest and pain would take at least 1-2 weeks to reduce. Warm compression/ heat application and painkillers spray over site will help.

Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
