Question: For the last month or so I have been waking up most mornings with my rib cage hurting. It goes away almost immediately after getting out of bed.

This seems most consistent with inflammation of your musculoskeletal system. This may be in some degree related to how you sleep or the firmness of your mattress.

It may be reasonable for you to have a good physical exam and perhaps a chest xray to make sure there are no abnormalities within the bones of your chest which could cause aches and pains.

I suspect mild positional arthritis but please see your doctor to confirm.
