What Causes Pain And Tingling In Hands?
Question: Arttached are the cervical x rays. Symptoms are pain and numbness/ tingling in hands.

The cervical spine is straightened which may suggest muscle spasm.
The alignment of cervical vertebrae is normal.
There are anterior marginal osteophytes in the C 5 vertebra (inferiorly) and C 6 vertebra (superiorly). No obvious intervertebral disc space narrowing is noted.
Rest of the cervical vertebrae are normal.
Pedicles and posterior elements are normal to the extent visualized.
The conclusion is mild cervical spondylosis with degenerative changes involving cervical vertebrae C 5 and C 6 and cervical muscle spasm.
You should not ignore numbness or tingling and I suggest that you consult a neurologist and get a MRI scan of cervical spine done if necessary. There might be disc changes, nerve root compression causing your symptoms and these are not evident on X rays.

I am only 38 years old. Are these changes normal wear and tear for my age? Also', my dr is suggesting I see a rhumetologist. If I do have an inflammatory disease, could this be causing the degeneration?

Seeing a rheumatologist is must but alongside the opinion of a neurologist also might be needed if your pain and tingling are worsening. Inflammatory degeneration is of many types and no age is spared from it. This degeneration can also be one among the group.
