Brief Answer:
Blood sugar level

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to HCM. Thank you for your question. I understand your concern.

Well, the fact is that you are a 40-year old man and you have no risks for cardiovascular disease by age or by sex. Diabetes, whether it is present or not, is very simple to be checked. I would recommend you simply to measure your fasting blood sugar level. According to the result, further tests may be needed.

As for the chest tightness, I would like to take the XXXXXXX and explain angina to you.

Anginal pain is a mid-chest pain, which arises when there are blockages in the coronary arteries (arteries that surround the heart as a crown, hence the latin name, which supply the heart muscle with oxygen and important nutrients).

This kind of pain is generated during physical activity, radiates to the jaw, left shoulder and left arm, and is relieved only woth cessation of the physical activity that triggered it.

Now, it is unusual that this kind of pain is present in male sex under 45 years of age. If your chest tightness is as I described above, then a cardiac stress test would be indicated, to assess the heart electrical system "behaviour" during physical effort. This test further determines whether further measures are needed or not.

I hope my answer was helpful to you. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.

Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
