What Causes Pain And Swelling Near Cubital Nodes?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Sep 2014
Question: I have pain and slight swelling where the cubital nodes are located down my left arm about 8 inches. I have psoriaric arthritis and I am on Enbrel & methotrexate. I also had endometrial cancer in 2009. I have what appears to be a fungus on my palm which I treat with clortrimazole. This pain and swelling has happened before sans the fungus. I worry about lymphoma but have been told there is no pain involved if the swelling was cancer. Is this true? What could cause the pain and swelling?

Brief Answer:
FNAC/ Biopsy

Detailed Answer:
HI.
Thanks for your query, history and the pictures.

The nodes with cancer have no pain in the beginning is very true.

The best way to confirm a diagnosis id by FNAC (fine needle aspiration cytology) and / or biopsy. The swelling can be caused by an infection, can be a lipoma or a sebaceous cyst or a cancer / lymphoma as you are thinking and worried about.

Go for a clinical diagnosis by consulting a Surgeon and getting the FNAC done or get excision, histopathological examination and confirmed diagnosis to get away from the phobia. I can understand your feelings as you have already gone through the problems.

The picture is not suggestive of fungus, looks to be just a red patch may be allergic or so, you may consult a Dermatologist if this is symptomatic. This is not a preferred site of fungal infection. Please continue rest of the medicines as you are already on under the strict care and follow-up of the concerned Doctor.
