What Causes Pain And Swelling In The Foot And Toes?

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: i have a pain in the top of my left foot, in the middle of my foot, about an inch above the base of my toes. I do not see any evidence of an insect bite, do not recall doing something that caused the pain. It hurts when I walk, no real pain when sitting. My foot appears slightly swollen and has a "numb feeling" if I curl my toes.

Brief Answer:
It seems ligament pull......

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I had gone through your question carefully and it will be very helpful if you can upload a picture of the affected area. Let me know whether you are diabetic or having any other chronic illness.
According to your history, it appears ligament pull due to twitching or twisting your leg unknowingly. I would suggest you to take anti inflammatory drug, put that leg to rest, apply ice packs to the affected area, keep that leg up while lying down to reduce swelling. It will get recovered by itself within 15 to 20 days, if you follow this simple rules, so don't get bothered much.
To rule out any kind of fracture, you can go for xray, because sometimes at your age even trivial injury can cause fracture.
Hope this answers your question and feel free to ask any of your further relevant queries. Wish you a speedy recovery.

It is not very obvious that the foot has some swelling, but I can see it compared to my other foot. I am a type 2 diabetic, taking 500MG metformin daily. My diabetes is considered under control, my A1C's the past 2 years have been between 5..7 and 6.2. I do play golf and may have twisted the foot doing that resently, but do not recall an obvious event of that nature. Should I stop playing golf for the 15 to 20 days you refer to, or may I resume when my discomfort ends, if sooner? Thank you for your reply, glad I do not have to follow up with my primary care doctor for this situation. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Stop outdoor activities for next 15 to 20 days...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I would suggest you not to play any outdoor game including golf for next 15 to 20 days even though discomfort disappears soon. Because you are diabetic and your age is advancing, you need to take extra care of such small injury just to prevent any complication, which can arise from such little injury.
You are welcome anytime and your foot will be ok very soon.
