What Causes Pain And Gurgling Sensation In Abdomen?

default
Posted on Sat, 2 Aug 2014
Question: Hello, I've had aching pain and gurgling in my lower left quadrant for three days. The pain is getting worse. Sometimes it's sharp and burning, other times its just an aching bloated feeling. I also am experiencing some gas. Not sure what it is. I have been diagnosed with diverticulitis that was found two years ago when I was undergoing a CT scan for my endometriosis but it never seemed to bother me.

Brief Answer:
Suggestive of acid peptic disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to answer your query.

I am glad that you have taken Mylanta(anti-reflux medication) for sour stomach.

According to me since your bloating, burning pain are not adequately relieved by Mylanta I would suspect acid peptic disease(gastritis or gastric ulcer). I would perform an upper gastrointestinal endoscopy to identify the exact pathology.

Have you been on any medications for diverticulitis or endometriosis?

Hold Ibuprofen since this increase your gastric symptoms. We can add proton pump inhibitor like rabeprazole 20mg once daily half an hour before food for 2-4 weeks, to reduce the acid secretion in the stomach. It is available over the counter at some places. Prilosec OTC is another over the counter available brand. However endoscopy is advisable to identify the cause.

Avoid spicy/hot, oily diet.Suggest to regularize your food habits.

Hope this answers you query.
