Posted on Mon, 17 Nov 2014
Question: I have pain/discomfort in my lower left side, right at my belt line.I have been dealing with this for a few months now if you look at my previous posts,I went to the doctor here locally yesterday and he said he thinks it is my ibs still but I find it difficult to burp like I use to,my stool is fine and normal but I still have this lingering pain/discomfort,mostly just bothers me though but I would like to know is there something out there that would help me get better,e feeling sometimes is a burning sensation and then at other times it feels like spasms/someone pushing on my lower left side, weird but just real tired of this situation and I would like to get on with my life.thanks

Brief Answer:
IBS

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health concerns.

I read through your prior history and I have to agree that this maybe still a problem with IBS. IBS can manifest in a number of ways including burning pain cramping alternating diarrhea and constipation. Pain is usually on the left side and since the colon is located in the upper left area and moves down to your rectum you can experience pain anywhere along that tract.

Recommendations for you are
1. reduce stress in your live. Try meditation or yoga
2. Exercise daily 30-60 mins of light walking will do
3. reduce weight
4. Eat a diet high in fiber and low in refined foods. May also try gluten free diet
5. Reduce caffeinated beverages and alcohol
6. If troubled by constipation use a fiber laxative avoid stimulant laxatives
7. Tylenol for pain and avoid ibuprofen and other Non-steroidal as they can cause irritation
8. See your doctor for possible anti-spasmotic medication
9. To fully diagnose your problem you may need to have a colonoscopy to rule out inflammatory bowel disease.
