What Causes Numbness, Ringing In Right Ear, Dizziness And Fatigue?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Apr 2016
Question: Hello. I've been experiencing numbness and ringing in my right ear, as well as dizziness, fatigue and weakness. The dizziness started a few days ago. I've had the fatigue and numbness for a couple of months. My most recent blood work was completed in December, everything came back very good. What might cause my symptoms? Do I need to be worried, or wait it out?

Brief Answer:
Read below.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

Judging from your description of ear ringing and numbness on one side, co1mbined with dizziness I would say that the most probable causes would be either an inner ear disorder or of the nerve which connects it to the brainstem. The inner ear apart from hearing is related to balance as well so its involvement is commonly associated with dizziness and vertigo.
In terms of medications to alleviate the symptoms the one you mention to have taken (meclizine etc) are appropriate.

As about whether you should worry.... no reason to panic as inner ear issues are not threatening, but a physical exam is advisable both to check for signs of ear infection which would warrant additional treatment with antibiotics, or signs of involvement of cranial nerves which would warrant imaging for a central nervous system issue (inflammation, tumor etc).

I remain at your disposal for other questions.

Dear Dr. Olsi,
Thank you for your response.
You are right, I am having inner ear issues.
Apparently both of my ears are full of fluid.
I didn't realize allergies could feel like this.

Thank you for your time, XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
