What Causes Numbness On Left Side Of Head, Face And Hand?

default
Posted on Thu, 21 May 2015
Question: A month ago, I woke up with numbness on left side of head, face, arm & hand. Had a CT scan, a corotid artery scan, a MRI & blood test for B12 & Folic acid deficiency. All normal. Waiting for the neurologist to call me for an appointment. For the last 2 weeks , it has spread to my left leg & foot. Everything feels like I a sunburn but my hand is the worst. I literally can feel my pulse in my thumb at night when trying to sleep. It hurts all the time. Anything I touch feels like sandpaper . Even my fingers touching each other feels like sandpaper. Sometimes the hand feels hot, sometimes cold. I wear a glove to bed at night. Fingers from first joint to palm sting. Entire thumb is very painful. Put lidocaine on thumb & covered it with a rubber finger cot that comes with the salve. My doctor called the neurologist a week ago & still no call from him. Any suggestions?

Seems to be due to neuropathy.

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

From description your symptoms are suggestive of neuropathy. Nerve conduction velocity (NCV) test might be helpful to reach the diagnosis. Consult your neurologist for proper management.

Hope this helps you. Let me know if there is any more concerns.

Warm regards.

I have not lost any strength in my hand whatsoever. It's just painful to touch any type of fabric or surface, unless it's smooth. Will this be permanent or is there a cure? Could a pinched nerve be the cause?
