What Causes Numbness In The Penis After Penile Prosthesis?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Oct 2016
Question: I'm a 57 yo hetero man with type 2 diabetes and prostheses for ED. After the prosthesis, I lost about 40% of sensation (that I hadn't lost to the neuropathy). It's been getting worse ever since, and for almost 2 years I've been unable to achieve orgasm thru intercourse or oral, only thru masturbation with a powerful vibrator and more recently, with prostate/anal stimulation in addition.
When I had the implants put in 2 years ago, the left chamber was placed ~8mm higher into the glans than the right; my hypothesis is that some important nerves were severed because of that mistake. Of course the urologist who did the surgery said that the unevenness was OK, and that some loss of sensation was "normal". My Neurologist said there's been some success reported with Alpha Lypoic Acid. I tried it with no improvement for the month I tried it.
Any ideas, thoughts, theories, (condolences?) etc? Im almost a year into relationship with a very loving understanding woman, but we'd still like to be able to occasionally...
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Read the history carefully and understood your concerns about the loss of 40% sensation after penile prosthesis, progressive over 2 years, unable to achieve orgasm through intercourse or oral but with masturbation with powerful vibrator and prostate/anal stimulation in addition.

This means there is still orgasm although it needs additional measures as detailed by you.

My thoughts:
The Medical history: ADD, depression, Restless Leg syndrome, type 2 diabetes (a1c @5.5 for last 2 years!!), occasional IBS/fecal incontinence > add on the problem
Medications:
Many of the medications that you are taking can cause ED and delayed orgasm.

I would advise you the following in such a situation:
First of all to consult your Psychiatrist for re-evaluation of the medications you are taking so that it improves your sexual disorders and yet control the problems for which you are taking the medications.
This alone can improve your performance.
Also you may please try Acupressure/Acupuncture; it can really help in some patients.
Continue Alpha Lypoic Acid

Have you tried Viagra?

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
