What Causes Numbness In The Hand While Sleeping?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Dec 2016
Question: I'm loosing circulation on my right hand when I sleep on my right shoulder. I have to get up and rotate my right arm for a few minutes to get circulation back into it. If I sleep on my back and do a little exercise before be it is ok. But if I sleep on my stomach or on right side I loose circulation in right hand fairly quickly.
Is this a back muscle issue?

Brief Answer:
Bad positioning...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

You report to lose circulation on your right hand when you sleep on your right side.

This is due to bad positioning during which, pressure is put on the blood vessels and nerves of right side.

As you feel better when you do a bit exercise, this confirms it's due to bad positioning.

Keep moving and change position when sleeping. Keep exercising during the day especially if your daily activities include working on computer.

An x-ray of the vertebral column if chest area is required to rule out related issues.

Hope this helps.
