Posted on Wed, 29 Oct 2014
Question: Hello,my name is XXXXXXX Long story short i had an accident 7 months ago,and had orbital floor and zygomatic fractures all over the left side of my face.I got into a fight and got several blows all over the LEFT side of my head.I woke up in hospital.
Did a reconstructive surgery 20 days after.

Now,7 months after the accident,my life has changed completely.
I feel all of my right side of my body, yes my RIGHT one, weak, with numbness in fingers and toes,as well as imbalanced.I am walking like i am going to fall down.I don`t fall down actually and never had but it always feel like that, like i can not walk straight, and a permament diziness, like i am on a bota.Everything feels sureal as well as my vision has changed.I dont see double but i see blurry sometimes, like i can not focus on the spesific location i want to.
I also have hyperflexia,my hands for example,if i want to grab something, they do smasms before i do,as well as my neck, jaw and head,if i turn my head to a different direction,it`s doing spasms nad gets even more dizzy.
ALso have a permament mild pain on my neck since the accident(not something that i can not handle, very mild, but its annoying).Visited a neurologist, did some tests and everything came out negative as well as my MRI.
Forgive my broken english but i am not english native.
Please any thoughts or ideas would be helpful,i feel so desperate and depressed.
Thank you in advance

Brief Answer:
Upload CT, MRI and facial images

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. If your trauma and reconstructive surgery took place 7 months ago, the worst is over.

2. Internal healing of wounds takes many months and years. Since your MRI and neurological assessment is within normal limits, you will have to be patient.

3. The symptoms on the right side and the dizziness, blurring of vision are the result of concussions and the symptoms on the left side are the direct result of the trauma, fractures, reconstruction surgery and multiple cranial nerve weaknesses.

4. With steroids and physiotherapy, most of these symptoms will eventually settle down. No active intervention is necessary and should be avoided for at least a year or two. Thereafter a re-assessment can be done.

5. Upload CT, MRI and facial images of the sites of injury for further discussion.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thank you for your answer dr.Bhatti
I just want to notice that the accident and surgery happened to the left side(which i only got got facial palsy i guess side effects of the surgery, incissions etc)
But how come the left side of my body got affected?
Plus everything was just fine the first two months after surgery-accident,no diziness not weakness or numbness and not imbalanced, everything started like 4 months ago and feels it`s getting worse day by day.
Feels like i got symptoms of Ataxia and if mri and tests are negative, could it be anything related to my neck and the neck spasms i got?Plus i feel i can`t breathe properly from the right side of my throat and lung and sinus.
Is that normal?,i don`t think so.
Thank you again in advance doctor

As below:

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. You probably mean why the symptoms on the right side of the body? These are due to concussions and contrecoup concussions in the head and neck.

2. The time delay for noticing finer symptoms is very common. These are usually noticed after the pain and inflammation of the injuries subside and the patient is fully mobilized.

3. Neck spasms can cause imbalance, if other causes have been ruled out. Get a trial with an anti-spasmodic medication. If the dizziness and blurred vision is due to concussion, it will take time to settle. An anti-vertigo medication will help.

4. CT Scan images of the nose sinuses and throat will help diagnose why you have developed nasal obstruction.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any follow up queries, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
