What Causes Numbness In Feet And Fingers?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Jun 2014
Question: i feel numbness in my feet and fingers. i struggle when i walk, type, write, and basically everything that involves body movement. At night, i don't feel any of my body parts. I can move them though. I saw an emergency doctor and he took my blood and ran a few tests. He came back and told me that it is because of dehydration. Ive been drinking alot of water for the last few days, but my condition is getting worse. I feel that my feet are heavy, thus i cannot walk properly. I am worried that i will wake up someday and cant move my body parts. Please assist. Is it more than dehydration? what should i do?
Thanks

Brief Answer:
Replace the electrolytes also.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The feeling of numbness that you are having is likely to be due to fluid and electrolyte imbalance in your body. This is aggravated with dehydration. You need to have all the lost electrolytes also replaced along with the fluids.
Taking only plain water will not help. You need electrolyte rich fluids like Garotade and fresh fruit juices to combat this problem. Taking vitamin B12 supplements for few days will also help you.
I hope this answers your query.

Hi Doctor.
How many time will it take my body to go back to normal? Do you suggest exercise? and does smoking effect my condition? How many gatorades should i drink per day? Does eating fresh fruits help?

Brief Answer:
Around 2 weeks.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
It will take around 2 weeks to see an improvement. mild to moderate exercise will help in maintaining a healthy tone of the muscles. Smoking causes numbness and paresthesias. It is best to avoid smoking. You can drink around 2 liters of Garotade in a day. Taking fresh fruits and vitamin B 12 supplements will also help.
Hope my answer is helpful.
