What Causes Numbness And Burning On The Shoulder And Rib Cage?

default
Posted on Tue, 28 Oct 2014
Question: I have been having left side from my left shoulder down to the end of my left rib cage numbness and burning on and off for over a year now it has facial tightness mainly on the left side and burning for 2 months and now head tightness and burning for the past Month along with the facial issues. My left leg has been hurting in my shin and sometimes feels weak to walk. I have been to the ER 3 times and my brain CT was negative for stroke or masses, along with negative lung xray and I went to a neurologist and had an MRI of my brain and it was also negative. The also did 10 X-rays on my neck since I had a cervical fusion done on my c6 and c7. That showed my hardware was stable. Every time I've gone they tell me it could be a pinched nerve along my shoulder shooting to my face but won't do an MRI of my neck and spine. Im so tired of feeling like this. Even now intimacy is hardly enjoyable because the burning sensation shoots all over my face when I'm trying to relax and enjoy. Since May, my stress level has been pretty extreme. Someone please help, it is literally put me in a depression.

Brief Answer:
Agree that it could be a pinched nerve

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptoms and agree with you that it could be a pinched nerve. For confirmation of diagnosis, an MRI of cervical spine and neck should be done.

In the meanwhile, to get reel if from neuropathic pain and burning, you may take pregabalin capsules.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,

Should i push my neurologist to do these MRI's or have a spine surgeon do them. I feel like sometimes foe example tonight my head is burning so bad i want to throw up and it hurts. Coolness seems to alleviate it some .

Brief Answer:
You can ask your neurologist for MRI.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for getting back.

You can push your neurologist to get these MRIs done.

Only if there is severe pinching of the nerves, you would need to get an opinion from a spine surgeon regarding further management (such as epidural injections).

Best wishes,
