What Causes Nerve Pain Around The Joints After Hip Replacement?

Question: Hip Replacement complications
On March 17 I had a hip replacement. It was a revision of a artificial hip joint which I enjoyed for more than 15 years. It is now more than three months and I have nerve pain on all sides of joint when changing sitting positions and when walking with the aid of my forearm crutches. I also have a wobble in my whole leg which I notice the strongest down around my ankle, almost with every step when I put full weight on it. There is also a squishy, spongy feeling when the wobble takes place. On my stationary bike the wobble occurs when the left leg is almost fully extended at the bottom of the thrust.
I tell myself that there are only two things that could be moving, The whole ball unit or the femur insert which is more than 15 years old. There should not be any lateral movement between the top and bottom of the whole hip replacement unit. I had X-rays last week and no movement of the ball was noticed, and checked negative for blood inflammation and infection. I am 71 years old, in good shape, and have had four hip operations and usually feel normal in two to three months. My Doctor says he wants to wait to see if the hip socket moves before he goes back in there. I do not want to wait to long and wondering if I should go to a specialist who does just hip replacements. Brief Answer:
Second opinion from Hip replacement surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This appears to be a very specific question on Hip joint and you should have chosen a Specialist to answer instead of a GP.

The muscles around the hip joint should be supporting the ball and the socket equally to bring in balance. If one side of the muscles are strong and other side are weak it leads to wobbling.

Your joint replacement may be right in waiting. But to get a peace of mind I would suggest to get an Hip replacement surgeon involved who would see such cases day in and day out.

Hope this helps.
