What Causes Needle Like Pain In Arm After A Bug Bite?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Jul 2014
Question: Something bit me outside on my deck. I was sitting on a brand new metal swing and I saw nothing flying. I felt a needle like pinch under my arm and immediately looked to see what could be causing it. I saw nothing. After a minute or so, I realized the pain wasn't going away, so I started looking at all of the surfaces around me. I saw a small bug on the back seat of the swing. I wasn't sure what it was, but it most closely resembled a pincher bug or earwig. After researching them, I have found them to be harmless. The needle like pain continues in my arm. It feels like needles are being poked in all different directions out from the center of the tiny bite. I do not see a stinger and the bite itself is hardly visible. I am 42 years old and have never been stung or bitten by anything except a mosquito. Thoughts? YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
due to inflammatory response

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Even with non poisonous insect bites the inflammatory reaction that occurs due to the bite can result with significant discomfort.

Because the pain that you are experiencing is due to your body's inflammatory response then you may want to consider the use of anti inflammatory agents such as anti histamines and anti inflammatory pain killers.

Both of these should be available over the counter. Examples of the anti inflammatory agents are ibuprofen, naproxen, cataflam, aspirin.
It may be best to use on a full stomach to avoid irritation of the stomach.

Anti histamines include benadryl, claritine, zyrtec, allegra.

These may need to be used for 24 to 48 hours.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
