What Causes Nausea And Pain Under The Left Rib Cage While On Vancomycin?

Posted on Wed, 19 Apr 2017
Question: I am an almost 6 year pancreas cancer survivor. I recently was on IV antibiotics (vancomycin) for only 3 days because it made me sick. I have been having nausea and pain in my upper left rib cage since starting it.
Can this antibiotic effect your stomach or are these symptoms related to pancreas cancer recurrence?
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Gastric discomfort due to vancomycin adverse effects

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking
Nausea and pain left hypochondrium is a very benign symptoms and can happen due to many causes as it indicates gastric discomfort. And of course, use of vancomycin is very frequently followed by bitter taste and such discomfort of the area you mentioned. I would like you to take some pepto for the discomfort and consult a doctor if the issue persists. But i don't think think this pain and discomfort can be due to recurrence of god forbid CA pancreas. Your doctor may switch the meds and may prescribe you some good antacids for the relief and see if it helps.

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
