What Causes Nausea And Hot Flashes Post Alcohol Withdrawal?

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Dec 2016
Question: Hi Dr.
I think I'm having Alcohol withdraw or maybe had poisoning or a combination. I was very nautious earlier today and it got worse as the day went on. Lots of hot flashes while I was with my client but then they went away when we stepped outside between appointments. (But it is 21 degrees here). The heat was on in the car and I ended up sweating and getting sick. But I only had Vitamin water during the 2 hours before. I took Ondansetron when I got home (that I was prescribed but never took before).... and I felt better. Now I keep getting getting chills and then they go away. I have been drinking water and Pedialite slowly but I I still feel off. I do not have a fever but this is all giving me anxiety and hard to sleep even though I'm very tired. I tried to eat soup and I felt worse. Any suggestions? Something to eat?

Brief Answer:
I do not think it is alcohol withdrawal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

From the available description I do not feel you have alcohol withdrawal as none of the symptoms mentioned over here occurs during alcohghol withdrawal. From the description there is more possibility of poisoning, such as food poisoning. The feeling of nausea, hot flushes, intolerance to heat, chills can occur in poisoning but almost never during alcohol withdrawal.

For the time being I will request you to use ondansetron and wait for 30-45 minutes. Following this take light food or semiliquid foods. If fever occurs take the tylenol. For the sleep promethazine 25 mg can be taken. The medicine also helps in vomiting and available over the counter.

In addition get your blood pressure and temperature checked. If there are gross deviations from normal visit emergency.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.
