Brief Answer:
different possible causes

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Spasms or intermittent contractions of muscles in any area of the body are not usually related to serious causes and most resolve on their own.

It is not usually a symptom of heart disease.

Some of the most common causes include: (1)dehydration- if not using enough fluids or there is increased fluid loss from diarrhea, vomiting, excess sweating etc

(2)electrolyte abnormality - abnormal levels of potassium, calcium or magnesium. This is detectable by blood tests

(3)trauma to the muscles in the area or excess physical activity

(4)kidney or liver disease

(5)excess caffeine

(6)side effect of medication

(7)anxiety

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions

Brief Answer:
may stop on its own or may need a muscle relaxant

Detailed Answer:
HI

In some cases, they would stop on their own though the exact time they can occur cannot be predicted.

If they are occurring frequently or they are very disturbing then you can consider visiting your doctor to see if the cause can be determined (the cause may not be found in some persons) and using a muscle relaxant.

eg a benzodiazepine such as valium, lorazepam or alprazolam or baclofen or XXXXXXX or flexeril or zanaflex

A warm compress to area can help in some cases
