What Causes Missed Periods While On Birth Control Pills?

default
Posted on Thu, 13 Aug 2015
Question: I have been on the pill for many years and in April switched to a new one. I had my first two periods like normal no problem in April and May. But I have now missed my last two periods XXXXXXX and July. I am always on time for my periods. I have taken multiple pregnancy tests and all are negative. I am 9 weeks from my last period. Should I be concerned I'm pregnant or is it just a fluke?

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry about. It is normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
It is normal not to have periods while taking the birth control pills regularly. Since you have not missed any of the pills and your pregnancy tests are negative there is no need to worry. Your normal periods will resume as soon as you stop taking the pills. You may have an intermittent spotting during the cycle or have a periods during the next pill free or placebo period.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
