default
Posted on Mon, 22 Aug 2016
Question: Had Hxectomy... Developed 17cm x 5cm abscess 3 weeks later on the inside of my stomach. They did debridement... Was in hospital for a week on multiple antibx... D/C'd on levoquin. On wound pump for over a month... Had foot sx a week after being off wound pump. They swabbed nose for pre-op n a few days later I get a letter saying I have MRSA. Then when bandage comes off foot it's oozing (infection) ... It's swabbed... Started on Bactrim... Letter comes in mail, it's MRSA of course. I'm extremely fatigued, I now have migraines I never had before, and I occasionally have blood in my stool. Should I be any more concerned since I'm still on Bactrim?

Brief Answer:
will take time to get your strength back

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
Bactrim is a good drug to treat MRSA and so your would should heal up but you need to keep a check on it.
The fatigue and migraines could be from the repeated traumas your body has gone through from the initial surgery, then the abscess and now this infection. It takes bodies months to get back to normal after so much trauma.
Here are some things that will help.
Get some exercise every day even if it is just walking for a bit.
Take a multivitamin daily and some extra vitamin C.
Drink at least 8, 8oz glassses of water daily and avoid caffeine and alcohol because they make you dehydrated.
Watch for migraine triggers, everyone is different but chocolate and alcohol are big triggers for lots of people.
The blood in the stools is another question and you need to follow up with your doctor to determine the cause for this. It may just be hemorrhoids but you need an exam and some stool tests to make sure. You may also need a colonoscopy but your doctor can determine if you really need that test.
I hope you are feeling better soon. Let me know if you have further questions.
Regards,
Dr. Robinson
