What Causes Lump On Forehead In A Child?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Dec 2015
Question: My eight year old son noticed a quarter size bump above his temple between his left eye and hairline. He has a natural boney feeling on both sides, but we recently noticed the left is bigger than the right. Should I be concerned about cancer?

Brief Answer:
Cancer is almost impossible. It could be a cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Most likely it would be a Cyst - Dermoid or sebaceous. It is common in these areas. And usually nothing needs to be done for it unless cosmetically disfiguring or causing pain due to the rare occurrence of infection in the cyst.
Cancer is almost impossible in such a lesion.
However, to remove your apprehension you could get him examined by a Doctor or a Surgeon to be completely sure.
Without examining it would be very difficult to comment with surety as to what it is.
Do let me know if there are other concerns.
Take care,
