What Causes Lower Right Quadrant Pain?

Posted on Tue, 14 Mar 2017
Question: My daughter is 23 and began having pressure and pain right behind navel. Long story short...she had all the tests and nothing found. This started end December. She's in constant pain and now it's her upper and lower stomach. She feels better if she does not eat any solid foods. If she even eats a few bites she hurts. She has constant pressure and fullness. her BM is very small amounts about every three days or so. She stays nauseated. She has taken MOM three nights in a row and no BM. She's been on effeXor for 8 years and other meds. I'm afraid it's messing with her central nervous system. Gasticparesis? Constipation? Blockage? Should she try a suppository? Is this an emergency? Last time she was at ER she was sent home because they didn't find anything and made her feel like she was just after pain meds.

Hi,

I admire your positive outlook and congratulate you for the attitude.

Now I guess she has right lower quadrant pain

There are lots of pathological causes responsible for it.

However, let me give my opinion here.

As per her clinical history is concerned please upload following reports if you have 1)Ultrasound whole abdomen 2)CBC with Stool and Urine examination 3)CT scanning for Acute Appendicitis.

For this you need expert's guidance by your local doctors

Hope this helps.

Her upper abdomen and navel is where the pain, fullness and pressure are. I do not have the tests to upload, however her CT was normal, her CBC and stool and urine were normal. Also her X-Ray and ultrasound were all normal.

Her main complaint is the pain and nausea. She has taken the milk of Magnesia 3x and no BM. Will a suppository hurt her? How would I know she has blockage?

Hi,

Thanks for your follow up question.

I do understand your pain and discomfort.

As per her clinical history is concerned you have already done most investigations and finding is normal.so my advice on this matter is as follows:-

1)Admit her today in a general surgical center and a clinical examination for Gastrointestinal tract will be done in detail like inspection, auscultation, percussion, and palpation.

2)The doctor will do upper GI endoscopy/Colonoscopy and if facilities available a wireless capsule single bowel enteroscopy will be done to ruled out Crohn's diseases, IBD etc

3) Finally if they feel that a blockage is present somewhere in GI tract they will do an exploratory laparotomy and instantly repair and collect sample for biopsy.

4)Suppository is not required at this time rather we have to go to grass root of it as all findings are normal

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks
