What Causes Lower Left Abdominal Pain In An Elderly Person?
Question: My 80 year old husband has had pain on the left side of his lower abdomen a few days apart. Both doctors said to cut out spicy food and caffeine. He has been treated for prostate cancer five years ago. A Tylenol has not helped. He had trouble urinating this morning, but after that has gone fine. Can he wait over night to go back to the doc?

I read the symptoms of your husband and my answer is as follows:
Since he has pain in his lower abdominal part, in most of the times, the main reason are:
- UTI (urinary tract infection)
- Stones of the bladder, or stones in the left ureter
- Spasms of colon
I recommend to do an urinary test (routine microscopy) to check for infection and an ultrasound of his abdomen for the diagnosis.
