What Causes Low Testosterone Levels Post Prostate Cancer Treatment With Goserelin?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: My prostate cancer was treated with Goserelin. My testosterone fell to the castration level. This produced side effects. My testosterone recovered but I still live with some side effects.

Are all the 127 published side effects resulting only from low testosterone. If so why do I still have them? Alternately, can goserelin attack other glands or other functions such as neurological and cause long term or permanent changes?

Brief Answer:
probably it doesn't have any direct effect

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your query.
You do have a point. We also notice this in clinical practice. However, so far research has failed to show any direct toxicity of goserelin which is not mediated via the androgen pathway.

Hence a probable explanation is that the effects of androgen deprivation are longstanding even if the testosterone comes back. For example, the bone loss arising from androgen deprivation lasts for many years even after the testosterone recovers.

Hope this helps. I will be available to answer further follow up queries, if any.

This exactly explains my situation. Unfortunately, my health support team does not agree. Four years of suffering, no diagnosis, no treatment, no medication.

I would like to access any published material, clinical studies, other opinions, that will help support my argument. I have searched the internet but no one seems to have dealt with this subject.

What do you suggest, how should I/we proceed?
