Question: Hello Doctor,

Brief Answer:
Seems iron def anemia

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

I have seen your wife's reports. She has anemia and leukocytosis.

I am definitely concerned about her low hemoglobin levels. More over she has microcytic and hypochromic type of anemia which may be seen in iron deficiency anemia. I would like to confirm the iron deficiency with some more blood tests like serum iron levels, serum folate levels, serum vitamin B12 levels. If the values are deficient, then she will need supplements like dexorange syrup for atleast 5 - 6 months.

Then she has leukocytosis. Before the surgery the leukocytosis was not there and has steadily developed after the discharge. Leukocytosis is mostly due to some infection or inflammation in the body. From the history I am presuming that this infection or inflammation is post-surgical and the source is in the abdomen. Thus I would suggest that she sees her surgeon for followup.

Hope it helps.
