What Causes Low Body Temperature And Vomiting In Children?

default
Posted on Fri, 20 Feb 2015
Question: Hi, 6 days ago my 12 yo vomited several times in the middle of the night. Was lethargic rested the next day. The following day she was a little queasy and tired but seemed better. Since then she has been having low body temperature down to 96 degrees and has gone from queasy, lethargic to dizzy and stomach pains. Still with body temp from 98.6 to 96 off and on. Is this NOT considered a fever? I am sure she is just recovering slow but I am concerned about her low body temperature. Normally my children have a spike, not a decline. She began eating more regular foods yesterday besides just the crackers, rice and applesauce. I am sure that is why she 's dizzy - she is weak and hasn't eaten much prior. There has been no additional vomiting or diarrhea. Today is day 6. what can I expect from here and whats up with the low body temperature? is 2 degrees below just as concerning as 2 degrees above? confused! thank you! XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Stress adrenal insufficiency couled be the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcaremagic
Greetings of the day
Dear Ms

Low body temperature is less likely during illness in children. It could be due to mild adrenal insufficiency associated during illness and electrolyte imbalance due to repeated vomiting.

I would suggest you the following

1. Intake of electrolyte solution will be helpful

2. Ensure good intake of water : 1 cup of water 1 hour before every meal and 1 cup of water 1 hour after every meals will ensure adequate intake of water.

3. Meals on time

4. Cover the child with appropriate clothing

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take care
