What Causes Low Blood Sugar Levels?

default
Posted on Wed, 6 May 2015
Question: Hi,

I just received my lab profile from a life insurance exam and my glucose level was 44. Reading online that seems dangerously low. At times I am a bit tired but seemingly no other symptoms. My last bloodwork in 5/13 it was 91 and seems over the years has been anywhere from 80-115. Im 33, 5'11 and 160lbs. Moderate drinker, only beer/wine. This late in the evening cant consult with my physician. Test was done one week ago. Should i seek emergency care?

Brief answer....get the test repeated as this seems to be a wrong report
Detailed answer....
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
Although it has not been mentioned that this level of 44 is fasting or PP nevertheless this is a very low reading and a person with this level would not be walking and talking coherently.
In fact one starts getting hypoglycemic ( low blood sugar levels ) symptoms the moment level starts falling below 60,but if you are pretty fine with these levels, then doubts start creeping in.
You don't have to worry for this and no need to go to ER,if there is no problem and no symptoms and moreover this report was of last week and hence of no cause for worry.
I would advise you to get your blood sugar levels checked up again on few occasions and then we can discuss about it.
I hope it helps however you may revert to me.
Best of luck
Thanks
