Question: My baby is 10 months 3 weeks old. For last 3- 4 days she is not taking food properly. She is keeping food in her mouth and not swallowing.
we give her " EASUM" in the morning at 10 am and then Lunch @ 1 Pm ( rice , Butter, dal, aloo + veg or sometimes Chicken) and then at 4:30Pm Moosambi juice . 7 Pm she is given ceralac and 9:30 PM Dinner ( Rice, Veg, Butter + egg yolk). In between she taken Breast feed.
Now from last few days she is taking long time to complete food. She is taking 1- 1:30 hrs but she is not finishing the qty.

Dr please provide how to tackle the same and if you can help in a Diet chart.

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on feeding

Detailed Answer:
Hi...Thank you for consulting in Health Care magic.

I take this opportunity to tell you certain scientific facts and relieve your distress -

1. An active is a well kid even if she/ he is not eating well.

2. Development of a kid is as important as or I would say even more important than growth alone.

3. As the kids grow their interest in food decreases and interest in play activities increases so that they eat small quantity and run away to play. As parents we need to be more patient and feed than less quantity but more aliquots per day.

4. This age rather than the quantity of the food I suggest you concentrate more on the number of times you feed her and also make whatever you feed her calorie dense by adding good amount of ghee to it.

5. I suggest you not to use appetite stimulants on long run as they may cause drowsiness.

Coming to your query about diet chart, you are already given an excellent and balanced diet, so I do not see any further need to give a new diet chart, as what you are following is already very perfect. My congratulations for it.

I have a few questions for you -

1. What is the exact date of birth of the baby?

2. What was her birth weight and what is her current weight and current height or length?

Please get back to me with answers to above questions, so that I can guide you better.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.....I have calculated the kid's weight and height with respect to the age and birth weight. She is doing excellently well.

Coming to your queries -

1. At this age or any age, it is only demand feeding. There are no prescribed methods to feed the kid.

2. Usually. it can be spaced out at 4-6 hourly intervals, depending on the kid's previous intake.

3. As she's approaching 1 year age, you can feed her family pot feeding, means, whatever you cook for you, can be fed to her.

4. You can give her all fruits ...no restrictions.

5. Usually we say- avoid animal protein till 12 months of age. Buy as you have already started giving it, and she did not have any allergic reactions, please continue.

6. There is nothing in particular to be avoided.
