Posted on Wed, 18 Jun 2014
Question: Hi Doc,My baby is 9month3weeks old,her weight is 7.2kg,she started throwing/vomit when she was 6 month old when she had cold and temperature and we had introduced solids(puried apple, dal soup). She had a rare Bacteria Infection(name-ELIZABETHKINGIA MENINGOSEPTICA) when she was 13days old and she was cured after her one month treatment in NICU.She was exclusively breast fed till her 5th month.lately local docters in different city have suggested to stop her 2hourly formula milk(NAN2) feed and reduce it to 3times cow milk along with 3 solids in a day.she has started losing weight and remains little cranky coz of hunger. She vomits once in a day or at times once in 2/3days.She is very active baby and very playful even after she vomits.Mostly she passes one stool in a day and times its very dark green. Her diet includes one fruit/juice,cerelac, NAN2 4-5 feed of 4 oz and dal rice.plz advice. Thanks XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Needs conplete evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Though you mentioned your daughter is active and playful. Losing weight and vomiting every two days is not a good sign. I consider the following possibilities.
1) Gut infection with worms or bacteria.
Needs stool test to look for evidence of infection.
2) Gastritis with reflux which is very common at this age.
May require treatment with prokinetics like domstal after clinical evaluation of her abdomen.
3) lactose intolerance.
Test stool for reducing substances to confirm.
If positive, Try changing formula to lactose free like isomil. But avoid cows milk till one year.

Wishing speedy recovery
