Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being on healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr.Ajay Panwar,a neurologist,here to answer your query.

If you would have presented to me as an outpatient,I would have asked you the following questions in order to answer your query well-

1)What do you mean by muscle spasms?Don't use just medical term but please describe in common language what actually happens?Do you want to say muscle twitches?
2)Have they progressed over past 2 years or are of same frequency since then? Are they more frequent now?
3)Any history of limb weakness?
4)Anywhere on body--in tongue as well??or just limbs and trunk?
5)Do they increase due to lack of sleep or anxiety?

You are probably talking about fasciculations. However, please follow up with details.

Regards

Thank you for your response. To answer your questions:

1) the muscles are visibly twitching (fasciculations) as in i can see my skin fluttering and feel the sensation as well.
2). They are of the same frequency over the past 2 years
3) no history of limb weakness but I do have general lack of mobility/flexibility across most joints. My range of motion is reduced relative to most people my age (i.e. - shoulder flexion, wrist extension, elbow extension, dorsiflexion, supination of hand)
4) anywhere on trunk, limbs, neck, head. Not tongue or any orifice. Superficial skeletal muscles that would be visible to someome else looking at me.
5)i havent noticed and increase due to lack of sleep or anxiety. Seems somewhat random.

Brief Answer:
Benign fasciculations.Don't be anxious.Happens with everybody.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up and nicely presenting the details I asked for.

After going through your clinical history,my clinical diagnosis is 'Benign fasciculations'.These are almost universal.Happens with most of us.

Most important thing favouring benign fasciculations is non-progression and no history of weakness or wasting, even after two years of onset.

Nothing to worry. No treatment is needed. You may,at some point of time, get an 'Electromyography'(EMG) done to rule out any pathology.

Hope that I have answered your query. If you have some follow-up questions,I shall be glad to answer else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review as your rating will be of help to me.
