What Causes Left-sided Pain In Back?
Question: I have a pain on my left side between my back and side. It's located under the last rib in the back. It's not sharp pain, but it is sore to the touch and almost feels swollen or tight tactically. I'm a small female and work in hospice; therefore, I carry a lot of supplies.

After going through your symptoms and location of your pain , it is possible that it may be muscular pain or may be due to kidney.
As you told that it is almost feels swollen or tight tactically so your pain is looking more in favor of muscular pain.
Usually kidney related pain is felt along the sides and radiating in nature but sometimes at initial presentation it may be difficult to rule out radiation.
Kidney is vital organ so we always exclude kidney disease in such cases.
As in your case with such history and suspecting any kind of kidney involvement , we usually advise for laboratory investigations like Complete blood count and Urine routine examination with ultrasound abdomen.
I would suggest you to follow these steps-
1) Consult a doctor for laboratory investigations and ultrasound abdomen to rule out any kidney involvement.
2) Avoid any pain killer usually NSAIDS like diclofenac because these pain killer further affect kidney function.
3) In case of acute pain i would advise you Tab Paracetamol 650 mg ( maximum three tablets in a day) and local pain reliever gel or spray like Volini.
Any kind of muscular pain can relive by this method temporarily.
