What Causes Leaking Of Food After An Injury?

Question: 2 weeks ago I fell and landed on a table full body weight, it broken the table and my right ribs area and sternum was not broken but very painful. I was in the Hospital for 5 days with much pain and high white blood count. and fever. On day 2 I ate one bite of Cole Slaw and began to feel heartburn.....I feel like I am having a heart attack, can't drink anything...milk, water, juice...etc and eat anything without a pain that I have NEVER felt before. and the fluid/food will not stay down...day and night, grabbing my chest and breaking out in a sweat, I have had heartburn, but nothing like this, the pain is unbearable. What could cause this...I can't work, walk, laid flat and have but a few moments on relief thru out the day. what do you think, do I need a upper G>I> with contast? Something has got to give....also mymiddle back on my right side is a mess.....help with your insight if you can, please....I think another hospital stay is in my future.....my blood pressure shoot up to as high as 210/110 during the pain.

Even though extremely unlikely, sometimes, injury can rupture a portion of your esophagus and can produce a leak of the food you take into the mediastinum (the space outside your esphagus within your thoracic rib cage). Severe pain while eating or drinking and sudden spurt of BP which signifies autonomic riding, are important clues. I appreciate your vision about the prospects of going for endoscopy and if required for barium swallow. I agree that you are in need of further investigations in a good hospital.
