What Causes Large Frontal Lobe And Poor Balance In A 2 Year Old?

default
Posted on Mon, 20 Apr 2015
Question: My 2-year old granddaughter has some non-specific symptoms no one, including her pediatrician, seem to notice. After keeping her over the weekend I continue to be troubled by the following symptoms:
1. Very tall and large for her age
2. Frontal lobe especially and head a bit large, fingers very narrow beyond middle joint
3. Poor balance, she falls often...for example I barely touched her picking up a bag and she fell over
4. Since infancy she does not hold herself up when you pick her up...she is "like a sack of potatoes"
5. I wonder if she has a musculoskeletal problem however I don't want to unnecessarily alarm her parents.
Thank you...XXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hello. I just read through your question.
I understand your predicament. All of the signs you listed are concerning. Some sound hormonal, others sound neurological. In my opinion, you have an obligation to your granddaughter to mention it as tactfully as possible to the parents. In this day and age, many kids under 3 years go for developmental evaluations. In most states in the US, these evaluations are free. If it is determined that there is an issue, the services needed to help address the issue(s), is also free. I will usually say to the parent " if the evaluated says the child is normal, that's good news. If the evaluator says there is a problem and here is how we will fix that problem, that is also good. You can't lose. But the sooner it's done, the better the outcome for the child.

Good luck
