Brief Answer:
Some anxiety and restlessness is common during start of protein supplements

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for choosing Health Care Magic for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Your wife has been taking vegan proteins and is taking about 9 g per day (recommended doses are about 26 g ). She has developed symptoms like lack of sleep, nausea, rise in body temperature, palpitations etc.

First of all I would like to tell you that common vegan proteins are derived from Soya, Whey or Dairy sources. Soy proteins are relatively better tolerated. Whey and casein proteins supplements are known to produce restlessness, anxiety, insomnia in some individuals taking them. In most cases tolerance to side effects develop in less than 2 weeks and the symptoms reduce by own. She is also having complaints of breathlessness which could be due to some intolerance of amino acids or some other constituent of her supplements. But before commenting into detail I would need more details of her protein preparation.

I would advise you to give her plenty of fluids and water. This will help in easy metabolism of excess amino acids via kidney and will reduce the side effects. She has developed symptoms even with low dose so I would advise you to reduce her dose to half for about a week and then to increase the doses gradually to recommended doses. This will ameliorate the risk of side effects.

Taking the supplements with lukewarm milk for some time will also improve her problem of insomnia and other symptoms of anxiety.

Also in follow up question please provide these details

Which protein supplements does she take?

At what time does she take the supplements?

Whether she has any history of anxiety in past?

Please mention the ingredients of her protein, like which amino acids are there in protein?

Thanks, please provide these details as per your convenience so that we can proceed with more details of her complaints and their management.

Thanks, hope this helps you

Brief Answer:
Phenylalanine known to cause anxiety and palpitations in some individuals

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for providing details and now I can comment with confidence.

I have read the constituents and out of these amino acids phenylalanine is known to produce anxiety, palpitations and insomnia in a lot of individuals. Most common reasons for anxiety are overdose or poor clearance. As I have mentioned earlier taking plenty of water and fluids along with the supplements will reduce the risk of these symptoms and she will feel better.

Her nausea and GIT are most likely due to intake of arginine, cysteine. Both these amino acids are known to cause nausea, vomiting.

Though she is taking lower doses still as this dose is in form of supplements so this could be the reason of her symptoms. I would advise you to start with lower dose and progress to higher doses. Plenty of fluids are also advised. If possible give her natural sources of proteins like Soyabeans, milk, curd, cheese, ground nuts etc. This will improve her proteins and will not cause side effects.

Thanks, hope this helps you.
