Brief Answer:
The image is suggestive of scabies

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,
Thanks for writing in to us at hcm.
This is Dr.Riyanka and I am glad to be helping you with your query.

I understand your anxiousness.

I have gone through the image and it is suggestive of scabies . Scabies is not necessarily a sexually transmitted disease and can spread through close contact.

Kindly visit a dermatologist for further treatment.

The medications that can be helpful during this condition are:

1. 5% permethrin cream (most commonly prescribed). To be applied all over the body after taking bath and scrubbing with soap. Leave the cream on the body for 10-14 hours and then wash off thoroughly.

2. Antihistamines - Tablet Cetrizine 10mg at night to control itching.

3. Calamine lotion to reduce itching.

4. Antibiotics - Ciprofloxacin 500mg twice daily for a week (if you are not allergc to this drug) to cure secondary infection.

However, these drugs can only be taken after consulting a Registered Medical Practitioner.

Kindly wash your Clothings and bedding in hot water and dry under sunlight.
Also get your partner checked for scabies and other family members also.

After the treatment kindly again visit your doctor after two weeks.

Hope this answers your query. Don't worry .
Do write back if you have any further doubts.

how does this spread. I worry that I may have contacted something at work. I'm a police officer and come in contact with blood and body fluids regularly

Brief Answer:
Scabies spreads through skin to skin contact

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir,

Scabies is skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei (itch mite) that spreads generally through direct skin contact or even objects. Going by your profession it is quite possible you have contracted it through skin contact. In some people it can occur through sexual contact with an infected person. However, it doesnot spread through blood.

Kindly dont get worried . Please relax, Scabies is completely curable.
Kindly visit a dermatologist or a physician and take the required medications.
Even after the treatment the itching may last for some more time but dont be worried as it is an allergic response that shall take some time to go away.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Get well soon.
Dr.Riyanka
