Posted on Thu, 12 Mar 2015
Question: I had a old sore on my lips about three weeks ago and it left but since it is gone I have had an itchy chin under where the cold sore was and it is constant. When you itch it is does not go away. Almost feels like when a Novocain is wearing off.

Brief Answer:
steroid cream.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns that you are having non healing sore.

Based on your clinical details, it occurs to be a final stage of herpes labialis.

Post-scab stage (more than 15 days), A reddish area may linger at the site of viral infection as the destroyed cells are regenerated. Virus shedding can still occur during this stage.

I suggest the following measures for couple of days, to overcome your non healing sores.

1. Apply zinc oxide or zinc sulfate cream topically.

2. Avoiding touching. Apply steroid cream to prevent itching.

3. washing hands frequently while the outbreak is occurring.

Kindly discuss with your primary doctor, about these medications.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
