Brief Answer:
Information

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome,

It is possible to have or develop an allergic reaction to any medication, and significant itching is a sign that an allergic reaction is likely, particularly if it correlated with starting a new medication.

I recommend telling the prescribing doctor promptly about this symptom. There are other blood thinners that can be used instead. Xarelto has the benefit of convenience (not having to have blood thinning status checked frequently), but it sounds like her body is reacting to it.

So call the prescribing doctor or primary doctor now. If he/she is out of the office, talk with the doctor on call. If that isn't helpful, then she should go in to the urgent care or ER.

Please let me know if I can provide further information.
