I noticed I've had jock itch after a sexual encounter where we had oral sex. Is the jock itch something to worry about?

When I first got the symptoms were about 10 days ago (itching and rash, no discharge). I started to use Lotrimin and the itching went away in about 2-3 days.

I had similar symptoms about 5 years ago after attending a strip club and a dancer touching my private parts with her hands. I remember at that time using Lotrimin and it going away after a few weeks.

I'm not a sexually active person at all, so I'm wondering if this has anything to do with my actions and if this is something I need to worry about. Attached is a pic that I took last night. I don't know how well you would be able to see it, but the redness/lining is located right on my inner thigh.

Brief Answer:
Probably Tinea.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
Thanks for the information given.

Though I could not clearly make out from the picture, your history is typically suggestive of Tinea, a superficial fungal infection of the skin which can be transmitted from person to person by close contact.

This can be treated with topical antifungal creams (like Lotrimin you already having). But, even if the symptoms are getting down by few days, we have to continue using for a minimum of 6 weeks(6-8) to prevent recurrence.
Apply the cream twice daily.
For itching, you can take antihistamines like Levocetirizine 5 mg at bedtime for initial 5-7 days. Note that, this may cause some sedation.

If you are not getting better by 1 week, kindly see a dermatologist for further evaluation; otherwise, just continue using for a total of 6-8 weeks.
Meanwhile, keep the area clean and dry. Moisture and dirt promotes fungal growth.

Hope this will answer your query.

Thank you for your detailed response Dr. It is much appreciated! I just had one last question. Is there anything as far as natural foods that I can add to my diet that will expedite the healing process or is there any kind of foods that I should avoid during this time?

Brief Answer:
Take enough fruits and vegetables.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

No particular diet modification is needed for this condition alone. Including more fruits and vegetables will provide us with adequate vitamins and minerals which are essential for a healthy skin and better immunological status. This will help in reducing frequency, extent and duration of such infections. For instance, these infections are more common in individuals with malnutrition.

Hope you got cleared now.

Wishing you good health.
Thank you.
