What Causes Itching Hives All Over Body?

Question: I woke up yesterday with hives that progressively got worse as the day went on. I went to a clinic and the said it was a alergic reaction. They told me to take Benedril and a persription of prednisone. Does this make sence as a way to treat my hives? Also still itching fairly badly and rash has not started going away. Any suggestions on what i can do to stop the itching. Really hard to sleep last night and probably just as hard tonight. I started taking theprendnisone yesterday 3 pils and 1 today waiting to take a second later today.

Brief Answer: Calamine lotion will be beneficial Detailed Answer: Hi Welcome to Healthcare-Magic Greetings of the day Hives or urticaria is caused due to allergy and manifestation are due to release of Histamine. Histamine is an inflammatory mediator which causes dilatation of blood vessel and itching. Benadryl syrup which is basically used a a cough suppressant contains antihistamine so can be beneficial in treatment. I would suggest you the following which will definitely help 1. Take Tablet Pheniramine malleate (Avil) twice a day. 2. Local application of Calamine lotion will have soothening effect.
