What Causes Itching And Burning Sensation In Eyes?

default
Posted on Wed, 10 Sep 2014
Question: I wrote in earlier about my cataract surgery in my right eye with some followup questions, I have an additional question regarding my aftercare. I have been taking Xalatan in both eyes and Cosopt in my right eye only and realize that both of these medications cause dryness. I have my whole life had dry eyes. Prior to my surgery I was taking Systane Ultra throughout the day and that for the most part would help the dry eyes. Since my surgery and taking various antibiotic medications for two weeks my eyes have been extremely dry with burning & itching. The right eye is most of the time blurry. My doctor told me to try Refresh Plus and Refresh Ointment at night. I have tried all of these and my dry eyes seem to have gotten worse. I intermittently try Systane and nothing seems to help. We live in a new development area and a vacant lot next to our home has nothing but an abundance of weeds in it and the prevailing winds blows towards our home, could these be causing problems to my dryness. My right eyelid is constantly swollen. All of these things are causing me a lot of stress, does this also contribute to my eye situation. Are there any other options available.

Brief Answer:
You can use antiallergic eye drops.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to health care magic.

I reviewed the history and the previous question.
The complaints of itching and burning sensation can be because of allergy. The weeds are known to cause this. So probably your dry eye is aggravated by your allergy.
Hence I advice you to continue treatment for dry rye with Systane eye drops and refresh tears eye drops. Hence you need to use anti allergic eye drops like olopatadine along with your treatment for dry eye.

I hope anti allergic drugs will provide symptomatic relief for you.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
