What Causes Irritation In The Anal Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Dec 2016
Question: I've had a bout with diarrhea the last couple of weeks and my anal area is quite irritated. I even have some bleeding from the irritated areas. I can't seem to get rid of the pain because of the constant wiping. Is there anything I could buy over the counter to help heal this area? It's quite painful.

Brief Answer:
dab, sitz baths, anti inflammatory, topical antibiotic

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

You can try the following: (1) obtain flushable wipes and dap after using the bathroom, don't wipe, only dab till clean

(2)use anti inflammatory pain medication to help relieve the inflammation and pain eg naproxen, ibuprofen or voltaren. This systemic therapy would help

(3)warm sitz baths 2 to 3 times daily - sitting in warm (not hot) water that contains table salt or epsom salt would aid healing and provide pain relied
This should be done for 15 to 20 mins each time

(4)apply a topical antibiotic cream twice daily eg neosporin, fucidin, bactroban. This would be applied before the barrier protection

(5)the barrier protection, either the zinc oxide cream or the a and D ointment can be used to protect the area

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
