What Causes Irregular Wall Thickening Of The Rectosigmoid Colon?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Nov 2014
Question: I have been having some rectal bleeding, and had a colonoscopy. The doctor told me there was "something suspicious" which was causing the bleeding, and we are waiting for the biopsy results.
I also had a CT scan. The results were:
. Probably mild irregular wall thickening of the rectosigmoid colon.
What does this mean? I'm assuming that is the site of the bleeding. Is it possible for this to be benign?

Brief Answer:
chances are more of cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic.

According to CT report the wall is thickened. I feel it suggest more of cancer because of following reasons
-your age
-irregular thickening
-bleeding from the site
-site is rectosigmoid

Usually benign also have bleeding but they will be regular and like a polyp. Yes this is the site of bleeding.

These features suggest of cancer but it is not 100%. Even in tuberculosis and inflammatory bowel disease also such thickening may be found. Biopsy report will be 100% diagnostic.

The good sign is no surrounding lymph nodes are enlarged.

Hope I have answered your query. If any further queries are there I would love to help.
