Posted on Mon, 9 Mar 2015
Question: Hi i had suffered from stomach pain for quite some time. But at most it is when i near or my time for period. Especially in the week following my period I get constipated and then followed by diarrhea. I also get severe stomach cramps..Then for about 2 weeks my stool is somewhat normal- maybe turning a bit yellow. And then when i get close to my period it starts again. My doctor said it might be something called endometriosis. But is it more likely to come from my gi problems? I sometimes also have pain related to the stool but that is only during the week after my period

Brief Answer:
Probiotics,mephenamic acid,herbal tea advised...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

It is normal to get changes in your GI tract and bowel movements when your periods are near. This is because of hormonal influence.

Your stool become yellow because you might experience frequent bowel movements.

I advise to take:
- mephenamic acid to reduce the peri/menstrual pain
- probiotics to optimize intestinal flora
- avoid foods/beverages that could stimulate bm like coffee, chocolate, energetic drinks, oily/fatty foods, etc.
- herbal tea like chamomile or aloe vera can help improve bowel functions.

If after these changes, the symptoms will persist, can start running further tests to rule out endometriosis or other genital issues:
- abdominal/transvaginal ultrasound
- uterus biopsy
- vaginal swab testing
- pap smear

All the best!

Brief Answer:
Your symptoms are not indicative for colon cancer..

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX

Your symptoms are not typical for colon cancer, so I suggest to perform lifestyle changes and then consult gynecologist.

If the symptoms still persist you need to do colonoscopy, it is gold standard test to diagnose colon issues.

Wishing you all the best
