What Causes Intermittent Pain In Left Abdomen?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: Hi, I have been having a dull ache in my left abdomen on and off, for just over a week. It comes and goes through the day. On a scale of 1-10 it rates a 2. I have also had a pain in my back, below shoulder blade,on the same side which seems to extend down into my abdomen. Again, it is intermittent through the day. It feels like a muscle strain in my back. Could they be connected? I was doing some heavy lifting the day before all this started. I have not noticed any changes in my bowel habits. Everything looks and feels normal. Should I be concerned about anything sinister going on in there?

Brief Answer:
Musculoskeletal pain likely

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Based on your description and the distribution of pain, its likely to be musculoskeletal pain. Empirical NSAIDs and muscle relaxants should help. An ultrasound abdomen and pelvis , x ray KUB along with urinalysis can be advised if the symptoms persist to look for other causes including a urinary tract stone or UTI, both of which would be the likely causes if the NSAIDs and muscle relaxants don't work empirically.
