What Causes Intermittent Diarrhea While On Crestor?

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jan 2017
Question: I started taking crestor in early October this year. Before taking it I hardly ever was constipated. First two weeks taking it I was miserably so. I had to take laxative. Dr said continue meds but increase fiber intake slowly up to 21 grams a day. I already drink a lot of water. I have only got up to bout 15 grams but have had intermittent diarrhea with what looks like slimey stuff sometimes it is mostly water. A few times I've wiped there's been blood gut I do have hemorrhoids. I feel hungry all the time sometimes even in middle of night. I stopped taking Creator and started getting back to normal. Then decided to eat the extra fiber cereal and fiber bars to help lower cholesterol. Diarrhea started back. What should I do? I have not felt right since starting on Creator.. Coincidence?

Brief Answer:
Excess fiber causes diarrhea!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Excess fiber causes diarrhea. You need to take this in moderation. aim for solid stools and at most twice daily. Increasing the fiber content even after stopping crestor wouldn't help with the diarrhea. Reduce and let me know how this goes. Also, stop any laxative you may be on at this time.

Until next, I wish you well.

Thank you. I have not taken any laxatives since the constipation. My doctor told me to stay on the Crestor that the diarrhea some cramping maybe bloating and gas is normal with extra fiber intake to help with constipation. Also said it may take weeks or months to correct itself. I am too miserable to wait it out. I feel you are telling me go back to the diet I was on previously? I am also on phenteramine 37.5mg for weight loss. I have lost 60 lbs in 2 years but have been at a standstill and just upped them from 15mg in October. I have taken them at this dosage before with no problems. I have been under some stresses too. There has been some but not much cramping. And some of what I can only call burning sensation in upper abdomen but nothing bad. No unusual gas.

Brief Answer:
Yes, go back to the same diet!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I suggest that you stay on fiber alone and avoid al other medications geared towards addressing constipation. That would be the best way forward. I belive you might have been receiving too much which explains this diarrhea you have reported. Even phentermine would contribute in having diarrhea as well. But because you take that for the weight issues, I will not touch on it but rather ask that you stop laxatives and reduce on fiber intake.

I Wish you well and keep me posted with your progress.
