What Causes Inflammation And Whiteness In Gums Post Removal Of Braces?

default
Posted on Thu, 14 Apr 2016
Question: Hello, I got my braces off a few weeks ago and my gums have been inflamed latley and on my right lower tooth my gum seemed to turn white ish. So I left it alone and then later on it began bleeding at the gum line. Then after that a small hole opened in the middle and my gum started receding on that tooth. I saw a denstist and he said it was normal but now on the same tooth on the opposite side is now beginning the same process!

Brief Answer:
Looks like gum abscess and formation of gum abscess..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Welcome to Health Care Magic..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it is commonly seen that the individuals undergoing Orthodontic treatment/braces develop gum problems..

This is due to the fact that during placement of braces maintaining a proper Oral and dental hygiene becomes difficult..

In your case also it seems the same..
As your gums were inflamed after removal of braces, a small hole formed on the middle of the gum seems to be a Gum abscess or a Periodontal abscess (if it involves deeper structures like bone)..

It occurs secondary to infection..
I would suggest you to consult a Periodontist (gum specialist) and get evaluated..
He can do a deep cleaning of the teeth and under the gums that is known as Scaling and Curettage..

You will also be advised a course of antibiotics and anti inflammatory painkiller..
Topical application of gum paint shall also be advised..
As the infection will reduce the abscess will heal and gum will also gain back some of its attachment on tooth..

Any further questions are welcome..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
