Based on the facts that you have posted, it appears that your mother have increased frequency of micturition and urgency of urination which could be due to variety of causes like increased water intake or during cold climates or if these are not, then I will want to rule out diabetes,stones in urinary tract and UTI (urinary tract infection) first.

Urgency of urination could also be due to involuntary contractions of the bladder (over active bladder syndrome) that may be is associated with UTI.

So,it would be advisable to undergo some routine blood works (CBC),blood sugar (FBS,PPBS),Urine examination (especially for urine pus cells and sugar) with ultrasound of KUB region to rule out UTI,stones and diabetes.

Incomplete voiding of bladder could also be related to UTI or stones in the urinary tract or drug induced or neurogenic bladder (but i will keep this as a last possibility after rule outing other common causes).

Meanwhile,she can take bladder antispasmodics like Solifenacin 5 mg to control involuntary contractions of bladder and thereby control urgency.

This medicine is not available over the counter,therefore i would advise you to see physician or urologist for complete medical history,thoroughly clinical examination with some relevant tests.

The doctor will know about this medicine and can prescribe your mother.

If urine analysis reveals infection she may need to take broad spectrum antibiotics like ciprofloxacin or levofloxacin under the doctor's guidance.

Till the time,restrict her fluid intake and ensure to empty bladder before going to sleep.
