What Causes Humming Sound In Ears And Severe Sinus Infection?
Question: my ears have a humming sound in them. I had a real bad sinus infection (viral/bacteria?) three weeks ago. The clinic said my membranes still look swollen and know they say my er drums are red and have a slight buldge. they gave me (Friday 1-16-2014) amoxicillin and clavulante potassium 875. Does this med sound right? they said it's otitus media? Will this made help clear the ears and the sound?

Yes, the features suggestive of acute otitis media. That acute inflammation of middle ear.
This might be secondary to sinus infection. There is something called eustachian tube, which connects the ear with back of nose. So infection in nose, sinuses or throat can spread to the ear leading to otitis media.
I see many cases with similar cimplaints everyday and they all respond to amoxicillin with clavulanate potassium. This is a good combination antibiotic and you will be fine.
I also recommend the following.
1) Analgesic and anti inflammatory drug like paracetamol.
2) Decongestant with antihistamines like tab levocetrizine with phenylephrine. Relieves congestion of mucosa.

Thank you for your answer. So you have seen patients whose ears humm as thought it was tinnitus but it turned out to be the inflammation in the eustachian tube and inner ear. I am scared to death it is tinnitus. I know you can't know for sure but what I have told you of my symptoms is common and is normally not tinnitus.
